We’re big fans of the Aveda skin care line. Most of their products are made with clean ingredients, responsible manufacturing processes, and they work!

Aveda provides great products for those looking for high-quality, effective products that are gentle on the skin. They are also reasonably priced, given the formulations.

Aveda Skincare Review

Almost all of their products have fantastic ratings with tons of 5-star reviews. We love most of their products on this list but there are a few with questionable ingredients. Our favorite products are in the Botanical Kinetics line. These products offer results with super clean ingredients.

Roots of the Aveda Brand

Aveda was founded by Horst Rechelbacher in 1978. He was a pioneer in the holistic beauty space who believed in environmental responsibility. His unique vision and philosophy made Aveda stand out. It was one of the first brands that focused on holistic beauty that was attractive to the beauty industry.

Horst’s philosophy was inspired by Ayurveda, an Indian healing tradition. Aveda still lives up to Ayurveda principles by committing to the use of earth-friendly ingredients, packaging, and manufacturing processes.

Aveda stands behind the following promises:

  • 100% vegan
  • Responsible manufacturing
  • Protects pollinators (no beeswax)
  • Contributes to causes such as clean water
  • Naturally derived and certified organic ingredients
  • Ingredients sourced sustainably
  • Packaging uses 100% post-consumer recycled (PCR) material

Horst used to say “love lights up the cells”. When you do something out of pure love, you’re always successful.

Horst had a deep connection with plants and the beauty of nature. The brand started with candles and essential oils. Rechelbacher felt aromas from plants could lead to positive effects on the mind, body, and the earth.

What is Pure-fume Aroma?

Pure-fume is Aveda’s take on perfume. Also known as the Aveda Smell, these aromas are made from blends of flower and plant extracts. While something such as scent may sound simple, it’s not with Aveda.

They take scent very seriously in their products. Aveda Pure-fume was formulated by a team of specialized perfumers in their Botanical Aroma Lab. It’s much more involved than mixing a few essential oils.

Aveda Outer Peace Review

The products in the Outer Peace collection focus on getting a clear complexion. If you have acne, pimples, or blemishes, these are the Aveda products for you. Get rid of blemishes with the power of botanicals.

Aveda Outer Peace Review

Aveda Outer Peace Acne Relief Pads Review

The Acne Relief Pads use salicylic acid to exfoliate, unclog pores, and cleanse to help fight breakouts. Salicylic acid is an FDA-approved acne treatment. It’s a great option for treating mild to moderate acne and blemishes.

This product contains salicylic acid which is a great acne treatment ingredient we stand behind. However, we don’t like this product. It contains several suspect ingredients that don’t provide benefits to the skin.

Consider alternative options for acne treatment instead of the Aveda Outer Peace Acne Relief Pads.

Aveda Outer Peace Acne Relief Pads Ingredients

These acne-fighting pads contain salicylic acid to clear complexion at a 1.5% concentration. They also contain soothing plant-based ingredients such as tamanu seed oil, saw palmetto fruit extract, and boswellia serrata extract to soothe and calm the skin.

However, this product also contains ingredients we don’t love. It contains coloring agents and sulfates. It contains Blue 1 Lake, Yellow 5 lake, Barium Sulfate, and more. These are added ingredients that may improve the product presentation but they don’t offer direct skin benefits.

Here’s the full list of ingredients in the Aveda Acne Relief Pads:
