Skin Benefits
Helps shield skin from sunburn and some signs of photoaging by filtering UV rays, though it may not suit those with very sensitive skin.
Uses In Skincare & Cosmetics
Found in sunscreen lotions and sprays, as well as daily moisturizers and lip balms, to add UV-filtering capacity.
Comedogenic Rating
This ingredient is not typically evaluated for comedogenicity, and no standardized rating is available.
Safety
May cause irritation, sensitization, or photosensitizing reactions in some individuals. Patch testing, or choosing a non-benzophenone filter, is worth considering for sensitive or allergy-prone skin.
Is Benzophenone-3 a Good Ingredient?
It filters both UVA and UVB and can help with photostability, but it has a higher likelihood of contact sensitivity and photoallergy than many newer filters, and that's what keeps the rating at Fair. Reactive skin in particular may not tolerate it well.
